Thanks to the flood this year, I couldn't go back to Malacca and Segamat for my Chinese New Year celebration :( It's not an entirely bad thing though. Yeah, I miss my family but this turns out to be a rare opportunity for me to experience CNY in Singapore, which I never did before! Woo hoo! Was it good? Well..
Actually the overall experience is this: It's quiet. Everyone's gone home. All the shops are close. Orchard road is pretty empty. Not a soul around.
-deafening silence-
Ok la, just kidding. It's quiet but isn't as bad as how I described it above. On CNY eve, Sally brought me to Chinatown. I've been warned that there will be a crowd, which is something I don't like for obvious reasons.. Ewww, imagine squeezing with those slimy, perspiring uncles walking down the jam packed streets. Not too very enticing. Oh well, we GO nonetheless! What's experiencing CNY in SG if we don't go down to Chinatown, yeah?
The crowd @ Chinatown
Are the lions coming?
We waited for the lions but nothing happened!
Actually Chinatown during CNY is like any pasar malam. There's alot of food, noise, people and stalls selling stuffs like souvenirs, etc. It kinda drizzled abit though. Making it harder to move about when everyone's trying to find shelter. And those aunties made it even worse by opening their huge umbrellas in the middle of the crowd, hitting people nearby on their heads.
Oohh.. Lights
So we got hungry again and decided to eat :D
On the first day of CNY we had lunch together with Sally's family. Well, I didn't take a photo of everyone though :P Forgot.
Oops, can't see the food too
Around 3pm, Sally and I, together with her sis, brother-in-law & niece accompanied her parents to the famous Guan Yin temple at Bugis. Nearby where I'm temporary staying now hehe. The crowd was HUGE :o
The crowd was organized into groups.
Too many people already!
Ok the gates are opened.. Slowly uncles & aunties, don't run.
And the uncles & aunties zoomed pass. Unstoppable.
More people going in..
Ok full already!! At this point, the next group of people
are already being organized. Whew!
Soniyha & Sally
Soniyha took this picture,
so I acted like a clown to amuse her
Soniyha wanted to take a picture of us.
Together with WeiYing and Siva
On the second day of CNY, we decided that we needed some form of exercise already! We've been eating and enjoying ourselves so much even way before CNY. We went to ECP for an evening cycle and we both miss the smell of sea water and the lovely breeze.
Taking a break and enjoying the sea breeze
Then on the third day of CNY we had this for dinner.
Wahahaha!
LOL. So much for exercising the previous day. Then again, who can resist KFC? ;) Not me!
We were suppose to go back to work on Monday but the power of laziness overwhelmed us so we slept in for another day. And went back to work on Tuesday. Ha. Not surprising :P
Yey, still got mandarin orange to eat :D
Sally cooked spaghetti for me :P
Ok, so that's about it for CNY 2011. It's like a short, relaxing break from our (actually more for Sally) busy work life. And what more with all the planning for our house and wedding. Weee.. Alot of exciting stuffs coming soon!
Oh and I got surprise ang pow from the directors of my company. Fancy that! And a bar of chocolates too ;)
Happy New Year people!
Coming up next! Valentine's Day! ;) Stay tuned!
